International smuggling continued during the lockdown. Burmese arecanut, cigarette and poppy seeds loaded 5 trucks seized at Lailapur of Assam Mizoram
The issue of areca nut smuggling from Myanmar once caused a stir in state politics. Allegedly for the involvement of the ruling party leaders. But the smuggling never stopped even during the covid pandemic and lockdown.
Out of 5 trucks seized, 4 trucks are loaded with Burmese arecanut and 1 truck loaded with cigarette and poppy seeds. Based on uncovered sources Lailapur Police Petrol Post has conducted the operation in presence of the DSP Head Quarted Vargab Goswami.
Huge quantity of Burmese arecanut, cigarettes and poppy seeds are seized along with 5 drivers and trucks bearing registration No: AS-01/GC-5623, AS-01/LC-4927, NL-01/AD-9074, NL-01/AD-9819, RJ-09/GB-1956.
The Police Superintendent of Cachar Bhanwar Lal Meena said, there was no document related to the items and case has been registered in this regard. Police investigation is going on. The SP has instructed for tight police patrolling and naka checking in the border area.
